The Narrator is not present for most of this ending... or is he?

The Escape Pod Ending (also known as the Launch Pod Ending) is the ending that occurs when the player goes through the Boss's office and then walks backward, disabling the Narrator.

Obtaining the Ending

Exit Stanley's Office. At the 2 doors, pick the one on the left. Once you get to the staircase, go up to the Boss's Office. Enter his doors slowly, and quickly step back when they begin to close. Walk back towards Stanley's office. His office door will remain closed, but a new door should be open just in front of it. Enter the door. Then, ascend several flights of stairs until you reach floor 760, Walk through the door and approach the Escape Pod.

Note: The ending will break if you enter the right door first, then traverse to the left door. You can break the ending by jumping out of the window. Sometime the narrator lets you go back to your office without triggering the Coward Ending; if you do that during the ending, the ending will break again. You can also break the ending if you get the L shaped office.

The Ending

One of the banners prior to the escape pod says that both the Narrator and the player must be present for the escape pod to work. Because the Narrator is not with Stanley, the pod does not function and the game restarts.
